My name is Guadalupe Meza. In 2007 I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver due to autoimmune disease. I was 43 years old, a mother of 3 boys and married to my hubby of 26 years. I was on the list for 5 years. Until November 20, 2013 at 5:00 a.m. I got the call, Baylor had a liver for me. The next day, the 21st of November I went into surgery. I was in an induced coma for a week and when I woke up I remember asking the nurse “what day was it?” She said, “Thursday.” My mind was going 100 miles an hour and then I asked her “has Thanksgiving passed?” She said “no, today is Thanksgiving!” I just started weeping. How Great is my God that I’d wake up on Thanksgiving Day? It’ll be 7 years on November 21, 2020. I am so blessed. I was chosen to make the video that all new transplant recipients will see during their week-long preparation. I am so grateful that someone was so considerate of herself/himself to be a donor and now I am able to live a fuller life along with my family.
